Two people talking at one of the University open days.

From the moment you start your course, you’ll be carving out Your Future Plan.

We’ll help you get where you want to go by providing support, information and opportunities.

The Future Plan portal and our expert teams will be here to help throughout your studies.

Whatever your future plan may be, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to gain work experience, develop your skills and manage your career.

We can help you with:

  • placements
  • internships
  • volunteering
  • paid work
  • career management

Placements

Most of our courses include placement modules. This allows students to gain relevant experience working in a professional environment, locally, nationally, or internationally. In any one year, there are typically over 3,000 placements. These opportunities provide the chance to develop your CV as part of your assessed studies.

Internships

Our internship programme is open to all students on every course and offers you the chance to:

  • grow in confidence, discover and develop
  • build your CV
  • try something different
  • receive feedback

It’s flexible and designed to fit around you, with support from a dedicated team from start to finish.

Volunteering

Whether you’re interested in youth work, community sports or supporting festivals, there's a wealth of volunteering opportunities.

A recent survey of the UK’s leading businesses found 75% of employers prefer to recruit people with volunteering experience. Volunteering provides you the chance to:

  • contribute to communities, locally, nationally and internationally
  • build your CV
  • meet new people and make friends

To find out more, contact Cathy Green at studentvolunteering@glos.ac.uk, or call 01242 714149.

Paid work

The Students’ Union advertises part-time paid work via its JobShop, which you can fit around your studies. Visit the website to browse jobs and contact the JobShop co-ordinator. Term-time vacancies are also advertised within the Future Plan portal.

Career management

Our team of professional careers advisers offer sessions within your academic programme, plus one-to-one advice, guidance and information to get you thinking from the start of your course about where your degree could take you.

We will encourage you to explore your potential and your career ideas, develop your skills and prepare with confidence for your next step after graduation.

Gloucestershire Employability Awards

We're keen to recognise your achievements outside the lecture room and have developed the Gloucestershire Employability Awards to do just that.

The award will enable you to:

  • gain a certificate
  • identify your skills
  • write an excellent CV
  • perform well at interviews
  • feel proud
