A one year course, designed for practising managers or those aspiring to a management career, the CMS is an introductory, skill-based management qualification. Suitable for all business sectors, it introduces the main functional areas of management: Introduction to Leadership Practice; Management in Context; Introduction to Marketing; and an Introduction to Finance and Information.
You will be encouraged to reflect on your organisation and then apply your learning back in the workplace.
You can study the CMS as an individual qualification, and when you achieve the CMS, you may choose to pursue the Diploma in Management Studies, which feeds into the MBA programme.

Formal qualifications are not required for entry to the CMS. You should however be able to demonstrate that you will benefit from undertaking the course. In view of the work-related nature of the CMS, you will need to have recent and relevant work experience.

Apply your learning in your workplaces
Even if you have not been studying for a long-time, the CMS course has been designed to enable you to transfer current theories of management to your work place. Through assessment of your work, by written essay, group presentation, or a combination, we give you the practical experience to reflect on and so improve your performance in the workplace.
Learning with a peer group
The CMS attracts students aspiring to be a manager or gaining their first formal management qualification, so you will learn with a peer group of like-minded people. In addition to tutor support, peer group support will help you through the qualification.
Obtain a recognised qualification and professional status
With our links to the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), you will have the option to join the CMI as part of your CMS studies, and attain a CMI qualification.
